Dinner and Maiko Experience
Enjoy a luxurious dinner with the companionship of a Maiko performer. Your Kyoto Visitors Host will teach you the history of Maiko in Kyoto and help guide you through some traditional games.
Maiko are apprentice Geiko (Geiko is the Kyoto dialect for Geisha), but don’t let the title of fool you, they are expert performers. Traditionally, the apprentices are trained from a young age to become well-rounded entertainers; they learn to play musical instruments, to dance, to make casual conversation, to serve tea and they even learn to play traditional games.
Your experience begins with a luxurious dinner at a restaurant, such as Minokichi in Kyoto. A Maiko performer will join from the Gion district. The maiko will perform a traditional dance, kouta, and we’ll play traditional Japanese games in the restaurant’s large room. You’ll have an opportunity to chat with the performer and your guide can help with interpretation. Finally, we’ll have time to take photographs together.
