Half day Nijojo Castle and World Heritage Tour
This 4-hour tour includes stops at some of Kyoto’s most definitive and picturesque properties.
Nijojo Castle → Kinkaku-ji → Ryoan-ji
Starting at Nijojo Castle, your Kyoto Visitors Host will explain one the most historically significant sites in Japan. From the wonderful decorations of Karamon gate, to the sliding doors in Ninomaru Goten. Nijo Castle was the venue where the Meiji period began; changing the powers of the government from the ruling Samurai to the Imperial house.
After learning about the history of Japan at Nijojo Castle, we’ll go by bus to the Golden Pavilion, Kinkaku-ji. Kinkaku-ji is a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism. It’s not just a temple, but also the villa where Ashikaga Yoshimitsu (3rd Shogun of Japan) used to amass his wealth from trade routes with China.
We’ll take a bus to Ryoan-ji temple, which is nearby Kinkaku-ji. It’s another Zen Buddhist temple, but has relatively fewer visitors than Kinkaku-ji. Your Kyoto Visitors Host will explain the attractions of the temple complex and Myoshin-ji school, which is the largest school of Rinzai Zen Buddhism. You’ll be impressed with the secrets of Ryoan-ji, which we won’t reveal until the day of the tour. Please look forward to it!
